Tesla and BMW Drivers May Be Most Dangerous
Does the vehicle a person decides to drive have a connection to that motorist’s likelihood of being involved in a crash? While the connection might not seem like an obvious one, a new study reported by CNBC suggests that Tesla and BMW drivers may be most likely to engage in dangerous behaviors behind the wheel, and thus may be most likely to be involved in a collision. Subaru and Porsche drivers were also cited as motorists who are most often in crashes, according to a report in The Guardian. That report suggests that BMW, Subaru, Ram, and Porsche drivers are more likely than other motorists to engage in “risky or aggressive” actions while driving, resulting in them being more likely to cause a crash. Learning More About Car Type and Driver Behaviors
Between 2022 and 2023, researchers assessed the number of reported collisions in the US and took into account the type of car being driven by the driver or drivers involved in the reported crashes. Those researchers determined that Tesla drivers had the worst rate of collisions in the country, but Subaru and Ram truck drivers were not far behind. In addition, the researchers also found that “BMW drivers were the most likely to engage in driving under the influence,” with a rate of 3 DUIs for every 1,000 drivers. Ram drivers were found to have the second-highest rate of DUIs, but DUI rates for BMW drivers were double those of Ram drivers.
While the researchers emphasized that they cannot point to a definitive reason that certain types of vehicles are involved in more crashes and have more reported DUIs, they do note that “there are indications that certain types of vehicles attract riskier drivers than others.”
What to Know About Seeking Compensation After a Car Crash in Louisiana
Generally speaking, after a car crash in Louisiana that results in injuries, you can seek compensation by filing an auto insurance claim and/or by filing a civil lawsuit against the liable party or parties. If a motorist’s negligent driving caused the crash in which you were injured, you may be able to file a lawsuit against the driver. To be eligible to file a lawsuit, you will need to pay close attention to the Louisiana statute of limitations, which requires most auto injury lawsuits to be filed within one year from the date of the injury (i.e., the date of the crash). A lawyer can help you determine the best path forward for seeking compensation based on the facts of your case.
